Industrial radioisotopes represent a large, high-value, and structurally underserved market spanning manufacturing, security and defence, environmental science, and advanced technology.
Key applications include non-destructive testing (NDT), where radioisotopes are used as gamma sources to inspect welds, pipework, and critical structures across oil and gas, aerospace, and heavy industry. They are also used for a variety of critical uses in security, environmental monitoring and space. Another radioisotope-based application is in the neutron transmutation doping of silicon for high-power electronics, for which increased demand is driven by the electrification of transport, renewable energy deployment, and grid modernisation.
Industrial isotopes serve markets underpinned by increasingly stringent regulatory requirements around inspection and qualification. Combined, industrial isotope use is set to expand significantly in the coming decades.
